Bonus - Energy Drinks, Nicotine & the Brain
What are the health benefits, if any, of drinking red bull and using nicotine?
Disclaimer - It goes without saying that I am not a doctor and this is not legal medical advice. I aim to write about supplements and compounds that I take or have tried and the research which underpins them. Anything you take yourself you do at your own risk
Two compounds which often receive harsh reviews from the general global health establishment are caffeine and nicotine, in particular caffeine from energy drinks, which come with a number of other substances designed to boost your metabolism and diminish fatigue. Energy drinks are banned in some countries and regulated in more - in my own country supermarkets will not sell Red Bull or Monster to someone under 16 years old. Nicotine from patches, vaping liquids, snus etc is encouraged for smokers looking to quit, but discouraged for everyone else. You will likely get a quizzical glance if you explain to someone you take nicotine for its beneficial effects. As someone who does drink Red Bull and use nicotine pouches, what do I get out of them? Do they offer any long term benefits or health boosts? Specifically - what protective or advantageous function do they offer the brain and cognitive systems?
