My third essay volume is now complete and on sale at Amazon, in both paperback and ebook formats. The title is ‘Demon Bats & Cocaine Mummies’, reflecting a hint of the flavour inside! I’ve written something like 150 essays and articles at this point, around 70 of them have now been published in books, all on the themes on archaeology, anthropology (modern and old), history, biology and aesthetics. This new volume includes work on culture-syndromes, the archaeology of vampires, the story of the North West Passage, Papuan cannibalism, Chinese shamanism, the demon bat of Zanzibar and much much more.
This is a totally self-published work, I have written and edited everything myself, with no help from USAID or anyone else. I’ve been writing and publishing a book every year now for the last three years, and I think this triple volume essay series can stand on its own as an original body of work, independent of academia and research organisations. I’m both proud and pleased to be able to offer it to you, my readers and subscribers.
Thank you all.
A nice little reminder that I need to get ahold of these. I can definitely respect the going-it-alone attitude, that's how I do it too.
By the way, I'm thinking of reviewing one of your collections on my Substack, Timeless, where I promote other Substack authors from time to time. I normally review fiction but your essays are fabulous material to review in the context of artistic inspiration. You never know how the demon bat of Zanzibar will affect the outcome of a novel.
Ordered a copy last night 🏆👍
